How to Organise Your Made-to-Measure Media Wall
If you’ve just had your bespoke display unit fitted in your living room but are not sure how to properly organise it, we’re here to help. Having a beautiful media unit is great, however, with lots of items on display, it can easily feel messy and disorganised, not promoting a clean and happy space. While many of us have made the switch to streaming platforms, negating the need for traditional media, many of us still keep a large collection, which can end up overwhelming the space.
Rather than let your items look cluttered, we’ve put together this guide to help you get on top of your media gadgets and make them look great.
Remove items and clean
The first thing you need to do is take everything out of the media unit. Whether you are transferring items from an old TV cabinet or just want to rearrange your items in your made-to-measure display unit, you’ll have to take everything out so you can see what you have and find the best spaces for each thing. Once everything has been removed, give everything a good clean. Unfortunately, just like everything in your house, media units can collect dust, so make sure to spray and wipe each shelf.
Sort through items
Now is a better time than any to pick through your belongings and see which ones are most important and which you would like to get rid of.
Make piles of the following:
- Media such as DVDs and CDs that you currently use
- Music and movies you've downloaded to computers, iPods, etc., eliminating the need for hard copies
- Outmoded media with content you want to see again e.g. wedding videos, baby videos.
- Donation pile
Any items of media that you no longer want or need can be donated. You can also consider condensing what you do want to keep even further by getting rid of DVD and CD cases and putting discs into an entertainment folder.
Choose what to display
Next, you can decide which things will go on display. Your made-to-measure display unit was created to add a feature to your room, so make the most of it. If you have any beautiful sculptures, vases, vintage radios or anything of the sort, arrange it in a way that looks good to you. DVDs and CDs can be displayed creatively or you can choose to hide them in drawers in cupboards fitted in your bespoke display unit.
